There are many tools you can use to improve your search engine optimization efforts, but SEMrush has come out on top as the best of them all. It’s not the cheapest option out there, but it does offer plenty of features that make it worth the cost and then some, so it’s definitely worth investigating. Check out this guide to learn more about what you can get from SEMrush, and why it’s one of the best tools out there in terms of improving your search rankings or making sure they don’t slip in the first place.
Why SEO Tools are Important?
Search engine optimization (SEO) is an ongoing task that requires constant attention and a variety of tools. One of these, called a keyword analysis tool, will help you evaluate how many times your targeted keywords appear in search results on Google. While you should focus more on content when trying to improve your rankings, having an understanding of what keywords are used by your target audience can give you a leg up when it comes to improving them. A solid keyword analysis software will also provide other data about what works and what doesn’t—like tracking when high-performing pages were first published and how quickly those posts were able to go viral. This information might seem trivial, but it can provide valuable insight into overall web trends and which strategies may be most effective long term.
SEMrush Features
SEMrush claims to be a comprehensive, all-in-one marketing analytics suite. The truth is, however, that SEMrush has no real feature that separates it from other major players in terms of features. What’s more, there are tons of free alternatives available to do almost everything they do. However, we found a lot of great things about them and would suggest at least trying out their 14-day trial to see if you like it before deciding if it’s worth your money (or not). Below are some things we really liked about SEMrush
Semrush Pros
Semrush gives you a simple and easy-to-use interface. It's great at helping you to understand your audience and what they're looking for. The backlink checker helps you find opportunities to get new links (from relevant websites) which can help with Google rankings. If you want to do competitor research, it's ideal as it lets you dig into keywords with ease. For on-page analysis, it's solid too and lets you compare your content with that of others on a site-level basis. Semrush also has good insights into how many backlinks a website has, along with helpful information about when those links were added or removed, which helps figure out how important those links are in driving traffic.
The Best Part of Using Semrush
SEMrush is a cloud-based competitive intelligence suite that allows you to track your own rankings and your competitors’ ranks in real-time. It gives you an edge over others by providing valuable insight that you can use to inform your search engine optimization (SEO) strategy. Its most popular features are Rank Tracker, Keyword Gap, Organic Traffic Insights, and Backlink Audit. If you want to get your hands on something equally powerful but have less money at your disposal, then its Professional plan might be just what you need.
Simple Interface
SEMrush’s user interface is just as simple and easy to use as its keyword analysis tools. You can quickly plug in a competitor’s URL and check out your ranks and organic search traffic. The traffic feature shows you how much of your SEO Moz money-making forum site traffic comes from social channels, which can be helpful if you are trying to grow your brand on Facebook or Twitter. SEMrush’s user interface also makes it easy to pull historical data so that users can track their website over time and make sure that they have enough data for their marketing needs. You don’t have to worry about running out of information with SEMRush since they give you access to both current and historical reports in one convenient place.
Powerful & Fast Reports
With Google Analytics, you’re most likely tracking just a few things—most commonly page views and unique visitors. But with SEMrush, you can track an insane amount of stats. You can even track how many hours people spend on your site! There are tons of ways to slice and dice your data—from looking at keyword positions over time to comparing traffic sources or engagement by location. It’s really easy to get amazing insights into how you can tweak your content based on performance. This feature alone could save you countless hours crunching numbers manually (and make sense of what all those impressions really mean).
Great Mobile App
One of my favorite features of SEMrush's suite of tools is its mobile app. It enables you to do keyword research, competitive analysis, monitors your accounts and projects, and more from your phone. I'm pretty sure it covers 90% of all business situations (unless you're selling donuts in which case it probably has a feature that supports that). Overall, I've been really impressed with how well thought out and functional their app is. If you're serious about SEO or PPC marketing in general, having a mobile app to take advantage of things like GPS search history tracking can make life much easier!
Strong Backlinks Tool
Google’s Matt Cutts previously said that they had several different ways of measuring backlinks. SEMRush has confirmed that exact statement which means there are several different ranking factors to take into account when you’re trying to rank your website on Google. The most important thing a company can do is understand what those ranking factors are and how you can optimize them (and your site) accordingly. To get a deeper understanding of how each factor works, check out our post about backlinks. If it’s been a while since you’ve read it, now might be a good time to give it another look-see!
Up To Date Data
One of our core values at SEMrush has always been that data should be fresh and up to date. Over 12 years, we’ve built a system to constantly monitor freshness on a daily basis. This means you can use one tool to access billions of pages, thousands of domains, and hundreds of millions of links updated daily with unique data from 100 different sources. That’s enough volume to completely distort an index if it were old! We don’t even cache our data - no more stale snapshots with indexed dates. You get everything in real-time as if you were crawling your site yourself which makes it easy to verify how your latest link-building efforts are impacting SERPs across multiple search engines.
How I Use It For My Business
The first thing I do when I sit down at my computer in the morning is logged into SEMrush. And I’m not alone. More than two million users use it every day, too. That’s because it lets us get an accurate snapshot of what our competitors are doing. It also lets us monitor our own website rankings and performance to make sure that we don’t fall behind in a changing marketplace where algorithms change as fast as consumer preferences do. The user interface isn’t overly flashy or complicated either, so even new users can jump right in and learn how to use it quickly.
